Coffeeshop
The coffee shop is located on the first floor in an old stone building, with entrances from Kárastígur and Frakkastígur. The first thing you’ll notice when walking in from Kárastígur, is the coffee bar with our beautiful La Marzocco espresso machine and two Mazzer grinders. Of course we can´t go on without mentioning the staff, working hard behind the bar prepping the coffee drinks all day long.
In the coffee shop there is old furniture, so it feels like a visit to your grandmas house for a cup of coffee and the latest gossip.
When you come in, you you’ll notice the record player and the collection of records in the corner. So, if you have a dusty old favorite at home you have to bring it in next time and share it with the rest of the Kaffismiðja guests.
If you look in behind the bar you’ll find our cozy corner, where the grandpa chairs are and also the kids corner. The restroom is also there as well as our green bean stock.
If you walk in from from Frakkarstígur, the other side, you will be welcomed by our pink roaster, This is where we roast all our lovely coffee. On it’s left is the packing, labeling and grinding facility. If you would enter the hallway behind the grinder you’ll find the spot where the staff gets nice and comfy.
We only have a total of 7 tables, all shapes and sizes, with all kinds of chairs. This is why we share the tables with strangers, so we have all kinds of people sitting together. If you can find a free chair, then you can sit in it. You never know what might happen or who you meet this way.
Our busiest time is in the morning.

About the owners of Kaffismidja Íslands
Kaffismidja is a small company owned by Sonja Björk Einarsdóttir Grant and Ingibjörg Jóna Sigurðardóttir, whom both evolved as baristas at Kaffitár.Sonja worked as a barista trainer at Kaffitár and from 2000 she worked on the Icelandic nationals and the WBC. Sonja is an international judge and she travels the world to judge national barista competitions.
Ingibjörg (Imma) worked as a barista and a manager at Kaffitár. Imma competed in WBC (World barista championship) 2006 in Bern, Switzerland (6th place) and in Tokyo 2007 (13th place). To be able to participate in WBC, Imma had to win the Icelandic nationals.
